“Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgiving, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings." Proverb
In spite of the difficulties and challenges that the pandemic has brought to the world there is still so much to be grateful for. ”The Oxford Dictionary defines the word grateful as “showing an appreciation of kindness.” This is where the difference lies; being thankful is a feeling, and being grateful is an action. Science-based research has shown that gratefulness can impact our mental health, increase happiness and resilience, even build professional commitment. Read more on this in the article; The Neuroscience of Gratitude and How It Affects Anxiety & Grief in this issue.
As spring and the Easter holiday, are now upon us, we at WMB, wish you our dear reader, that this new season is ushered in with renewed hope, joy, newfound determination and of course love and gratefulness in your heart.
Enjoy!
Sing It Girls™ is a one of a kind group program for girls ages 7-15 that uses singing, breathing exercises, and movement to build confidence and promote self care. It provides a fun space for girls to develop skills for working through worry and anxiety that they can take with them in to their every day lives.
The use of female-only groups is considered an ideal setting for these programs. Relational theories of women’s psychological development emphasize the importance of connections among girls and women (Gilligan, 1982; Brown & Gilligan, 1992). All-girl groups may promote these connections to a degree that mixed-gender groups will not (Chaplin et al.,2006) READ REPORT

Birds Eye Hue Boutique is a unique DIY essentials store and Becka is the Fusion Mineral Paint and Iron Orchid Designer. Retailer, Becka explains, “ I knew that starting a business during the pandemic would be risky, especially taking a break from my occupation as a registered nurse. It was essential for me to have the ability to sell my merchandise online, pending any lockdown that was to occur.”
Becka researched business grants available in Kingston and came across the SHop Here program. She contacted the Kingston Economic Development Corporation, and within days was accepted into the grant program and the adventure of creating her website began! The opportunity to participate in this program was extremely beneficial. Becka was assigned a mentor who helped with the initial design of her website.
“We would get on a weekly call and collaborate about what products and pictures needed to be incorporated and from there the website was developed!”
She was also taught all of the ins and outs of the Shopify program in order to become the administrator of her own website. This was about a 2 month process.
“Having this program and developing this website allowed me to promote all of my merchandise and products and direct the public to the site during the lock down in December. All products could be purchased via the online store.”
Becka says, “Opening this store has certainly been a risk for myself and my family, however with hard work and constant growth anything is possible"

New funding for small businesses in Canada was announced last week for small businesses through the Regional Relief and Recovery Fund (RRRF), with an increase in maximum support for enterprises from $40,000 to $60,000. The fund is backed by the Government of Canada through FedDev Ontario and is open to non-profit organizations and rural enterprises that were not eligible for other relief measures, as well as those that received other supports but need more backing to weather the second wave. The extra $1 million invested in RRRF is available to new applicants, and also to local businesses that are existing recipients but can now receive tops up of $20,000 in funding, with up to 50% of the additional funds taking the form of grants, and the balance as a 0% interest loan with no fees or charges.
This program is a 13week long entrepreneurship training program with a robust curriculum inclusive of finance, business, marketing, research and wellness content. Facilitators from BDC, RBC, Google, Government of Canada and more will be present to share useful resources and tools for business success.
It’ll run every Tuesday, 6-7:30 pm.
If your business needs financial support to purchase personal protective equipment (PPE), there is government funding available up to $1,000 for small businesses with 2-9 employees in retail, food services and personal service sectors.
Eligible businesses facing financial hard ship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic are now able to access a second CEBA loan of up to $20,000 – on top of the initial $40,000 that was available to small businesses. Half of this additional financing, up to $10,000, will be forgivable if the loan is repaid by December 31, 2022. This means the additional loan effectively increases CEBA loans from the existing $40,000 to$60,000 for eligible businesses, of which a total of $20,000 will be forgiven if the balance of the loan is repaid on time.
As announced in the Fall Economic Statement, the application deadline for CEBA has also been extended to March 31, 2021. To apply, eligible businesses and not-for-profits need to contact the financial institution that provided their initial CEBA loan and provide the appropriate information and documentation.
