New funding for small businesses in Canada was announced last week for small businesses through the Regional Relief and Recovery Fund (RRRF), with an increase in maximum support for enterprises from $40,000 to $60,000. The fund is backed by the Government of Canada through FedDev Ontario and is open to non-profit organizations and rural enterprises that were not eligible for other relief measures, as well as those that received other supports but need more backing to weather the second wave. The extra $1 million invested in RRRF is available to new applicants, and also to local businesses that are existing recipients but can now receive tops up of $20,000 in funding, with up to 50% of the additional funds taking the form of grants, and the balance as a 0% interest loan with no fees or charges.
Exporting can be daunting, costly, and time consuming, leaving many business owners limited in terms of how much they can grow.

If your business needs financial support to purchase personal protective equipment (PPE), there is government funding available up to $1,000 for small businesses with 2-9 employees in retail, food services and personal service sectors.
Eligible businesses facing financial hard ship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic are now able to access a second CEBA loan of up to $20,000 – on top of the initial $40,000 that was available to small businesses. Half of this additional financing, up to $10,000, will be forgivable if the loan is repaid by December 31, 2022. This means the additional loan effectively increases CEBA loans from the existing $40,000 to$60,000 for eligible businesses, of which a total of $20,000 will be forgiven if the balance of the loan is repaid on time.
As announced in the Fall Economic Statement, the application deadline for CEBA has also been extended to March 31, 2021. To apply, eligible businesses and not-for-profits need to contact the financial institution that provided their initial CEBA loan and provide the appropriate information and documentation.
