The Secret Garden Inn at Argyle Place is Kingston’s boutique urban retreat, offering a relaxing and memorable stay for a romantic getaway, business and leisure travelers and food lovers alike. We take the garden in our name to heart and work to provide our guests and community with magnificent grounds—an integral part of an elevated experience at one of Kingston’s most iconic Victorian homes.

Enjoy luxury—balanced with value—beginning with a most sought-after location, just steps away from dining, shopping, and the waterfront.

Located in the heart of downtown Kingston at 73 Sydenham Street, this historical designated building was constructed in 1888 by Scottish fur and leather merchant John McKay and named Argyle Place. In 1996, the building was transformed into an inn and has since been a place for people to gather and create lasting memories. In March of 2020, the inn was lovingly renovated and updated to reflect the care that we put into every interaction with our guests.

Every room has a different aesthetic that makes it special, and a name that reflects the history of the building and of Kingston itself. For example, the McKay room is named after the man who built The Secret Garden Inn and is located in what was the master bedroom for three generations. Coverdale, another one of our most popular rooms, overlooks the Spire and is named after the man who designed that building as well as many of the other architectural marvels in this beautiful city.

We pride ourselves in representing Kingston; that means hospitality at its finest. We will work to accommodate your needs. Hosting a meeting? Need a venue for your wedding or event? The Innkeeper, Crystal, will not only ensure your stay is excellent in every way, but she is also an event planner with a passion for making the gathering of your dreams a reality.

Crystal, can create a customized experience for you with suggestions for team building experiences or local day trips. The Secret Garden Inn has everything you might need to make your time here as extraordinary as possible. Our team will help curate a memorable experience for your vacation or event.

At The Secret Garden Inn, we take our epicurean endeavours very seriously and reflect that through our breakfasts and dinner offerings. Chef Ashley designs a creative menu for a three-course meal each weekend, using fresh local ingredients whenever possible to provide gourmet experiences that are a delight to all of your senses. They taste amazing, fill the house with delicious scents and are absolutely stunning to look at. She has also designed a unique breakfast menu to satisfy any and every dietary plan to start your day off in the best way possible.

The effort and care that we put into every guest experience is reflected through the Traveller Review Award 2021 that we earned by maintaining exceptional guest reviews last year. We are committed to our guests, focusing on their comfort and listening to their feedback to keep evolving with their needs. We are overjoyed to be celebrating the 25th year of being open to the public as an operational bed and breakfast, so keep an eye out for some exciting celebrations this year!

We love our city, and we’d love to show you why you should, too.
